subway busker - how much do you make? NEW
by: Anonymous

Hello -
I was raised to believe that it is rude to ask someone how much money they earn in their job, and by extension, what they do for a living, as that usually makes it easy to get a general idea of their earnings.
I worked as a subway musician. For a few years it was extremely lucrative.
When people asked what I did for a living, they were quite surprised, and would invariably ask how much money I made, as they didn't think someone could make a living at it but I obviously was doing well.
I always answered "Enough to get by."

Asking someone how much they paid for their vacation package NEW
by: Anonymous

I have a relative who was sharing with another relative about an upcoming european cruise they will be taking for 24 days. The person receiving this, then asked "how much does a vacation like that cost?" My question is, is that bad etiquette to ask someone that kind of a question, even if they are family?

None of your business nosy.....
by: Anonymous

I have a close friend that was born in another country. She asked me and other friends questions such as, how much is your paycheck, how much do you receive on your pension, and how much did something cost.

She is a dear friend, but I got tired of this and realized she didn't know any better. I sat her down and gently told her that this was rude and ill-mannered. I also reminded her that asking women how old they were is a no no. She also did this frequently.
