Bridal Shower as a Gift Grab

I am involved with a bridal shower, which has almost 100 invitees. I feel this is outlandish, and seems to be a gift grab, but no one else shares me feelings. Am I alone in this?

I have given pillow for a couple as a gift it was a good one. I spend lot of time to spend to find perfect gift but finally decided to give pillow which is good for side sleepers

This isn't neccesairly a gift grab, perhaps it is a cultural thing. Or perhaps it is as simple as the bride and groom knowing that many people. Be happy for the bride.
