Definition of Society
So perhaps, you're wondering about the definition of society? The Jouberts as a prank gave their friends at a party some gold dust soup. The gold was actually only a dollar per plate, however it was a source of amusement to people and was thus often written about.
When I was many years younger, I used to wonder what lifestyle, luxury or high fashion magazines were going on about "high society" or "people in society". I didn't get the point of the "Out about town" page where they featured photographs of beautiful to really old but fashionably elegant people going to charity balls, galas, fashion shows. It's only when I worked in a fashion magazine that I was since introduced to this "society". Definition of Society Dictionary.com defines Society as The social life of wealthy, prominent, or fashionable persons.or simply A body of individuals living as members of a community. I'm assuming that the latter definition was the original, probably when the time the English language was established. To me, the definition of society simply means a group of people who wish to 'hang out' together due to common interests. There is a misconception in general that people were born into societies. So unless you are the rich and famous, you'll never get the chance to socialize with the rich and famous. I can tell you many of the rich and famous right now, if they were born but did not make the effort to cultivate relationships of other birds of the same feather (or in their opinion of the same feather), they would have been stuck alone, in the same social circle they were 'born into' namely, the physical place they were born and grew up, the school their parents enrolled them to, and the university they got themselves into by their grades. Point is, at any point in time you feel slightly embarrassed of your desire to want to meet new people, or meet people with common interests, know that society folks do that too. And yes, within "society", some people get snubbed, who have gotten other people turn their noses up at, so we are all the same. My point is - go ahead and meet new people but most importantly, do not lose yourself to the glitz and glamor because a lot of it is smoke and mirrors. Establish a elegant character and personality with dignity and integrity and you'll find the quality people attracted to you. Definition of Society An Introduction So again, just as perhaps all of us who are interested in elegance, luxury, beauty, the finer things in life, are as curious as a cat about "society". What really goes on behind the scenes of "society" folks. Part of my series of "How to Be Classy" , I will talk quite a bit of 'society', gathered from my work in a fashion magazine that I worked with for a while, a business writer at a business magazine where I got the opportunity to interview some of the top CEOs, and in general, some influential people I've met along the way in life. I'm also a voracious reader, especially at one point in time during business school, I devoured many business memoirs, studies about successful people and in life. I tried to get behind how they think, what kind of values they had, their approach to family and relationships, and money. So, I'm very happy to share all my information because from my experience. Definition of Society People In Society And after all these years, I can tell you right now that, there is a certain sort of behaviour and protocol that society people understand and speak, with slight variations of each other. They do not like everyone in society and have little groups, and may even frown upon the behaviour of some within their society. They also pursue certain careers, sports, hobbies. They definitely place a high emphasis on manners and etiquette, AND education. They have insecurities like the rest of us, whether they are liked, or will be successful. Most are constantly worried that people might take advantage of them, or make use of them. They appear snobby and choosy with friends and associates for this very reason. In influential circles, many are very busy people, with empires to run, family, or charity organizations or simply have learnt to occupy themselves within the years to leave very little time to pursue and adopt new things. That is why they become very choosy with how they spend their time and who they've spent it with. Should you meet a new friend who fall in the above categories, don't be surprised that while they want to pursue a friendship with you. They always call you, never you calling them. But all in all, they are the same people as us, with emotions, insecurities, family struggles, and yes, even financial struggles. So when the term is coined, "High society people", it does not mean that they are 'higher' than the rest of us, morally, spiritually, or even physically. It simply means they have more influence due to the work that they do, the amount of financial power to make things happen, and the amount of connections of other influential people to make things (or manipulate things) happen the way they desire to. Just remember that whenever you feel intimidated. Keep developing your elegant personality and soon you'll learn to be comfortable with society and realize its not really that much different!
