Do I Have To Send A Graduation Gift When I Get A Graduation Announcement?

My cousin is graduating from college, and just recently sent out the announcements. She has been out on her own for 4 years. Am I required to send her money and/or a graduation gift.

If it is family or a close friend yes. I am so tired of people making excuses to be cheap skates!! It's a bunch of bullshit. It's not going to hurt to give 20.00. If you don't know them that is one thing.
My sister and law brags how much money she makes. She just took a 30,000.00 trip to Italy with her 2 kids. I have an awesome grad party and my daughter is following in her footsteps as a doctor. Guess what she gave my daughter. Nothing! Are you fricken kidding me! If I had her money I would of gave her 500.00 I have no respect for her anymore. She is on my shit list!! She may be a doctor but she is dumb as fuck!! Trying blessing someone else life instead of your own. Crap you can't take the money with you.......................

I do not believe a gift is necessary, a card is nice. I received (3) so far this year; for a HS, associate degree, and a BS; I am only sending a gift to one, because I see her (once) a year; the other two I never even met!

Graduating... NEW
by: Anonymous

Graduating is a huge accomplishment. If you feel close enough to the graduate, I'd advice sending a card or email congratulating the person and encouraging them on whatever path they have chosen to go down for a job. There's plenty of naysayers already. You are under no obligation to give a gift, perhaps include a sentiment about having her over for dinner (if she lives close enough) to celebrate! Or just send a card. Honestly a sweet card brightens my day, I'm sure it would brighten hers too!

Graduation Announcement NEW
by: Anonymous

Nope, your only responsibility is to update your mental image of her. Get out any and all "I cAAAAN't belieEEEve how big you have gotten" sentiments in the privacy of your own home.

You only need to provide a gift if you are moved to do so.

Not necessarily
by: Anonymous

I think it's inconsiderate, with the economic situation in America, to expect that every announcement will be rewarded with a gift. When you know a lot of youth through friens, church etc. this is so expensive. When I sent out my own college graduation announcements, I did it so they could share in the joy - not to get a gift.
