Even if it is casual, shouldn't he introduce me?

Recently, my boyfriend and I were out with a small group of friends. He ran into a co-worker of his that I had never met. They chatted for a while, and then the co-worker left. I was never introduced to this co-worker.

I was a bit bothered by this, and said something about it. My boyfriend claimed he didn't want to interrupt their conversation to make an introduction, and was trying not to be rude to the co-worker.

While I can't blame him for not wanting to interrupt, I still feel it would have been polite to be introduced. Is there a time frame within an immediate conversation one should wait before introducing your significant other? Is my boyfriend obligated at all to introduce me to his co-worker?
