I am 13, so I can definitely understand how hard it is to become elegant in a school environment. You seem to like the 50s look, and luckily there is a huge amount of information about the 50s look on the web. Start wearing your new clothes on weekends and wear small touches and work your way up (ex:ballet flats and a 50s ponytail or a circle skirt without a petticoat then both combined)

The first step to getting that look is hair. If you are looking for curled hairstyles search up LisaFreemontStreet on youtube, and 50s hairstyles for ___ hair (medium,long,short). Some ways of getting curls that were used in the 50s were rollers, rags, bobby pins, and perms(but I'd be very cautious of getting a perm, considering how much healthier your hair would be without one). When you use 50s methods it is easier to get closer to a 50s look. Even though curling irons were around since victorian times, they weren't used much in the 50s and only occasionally in the 60s. For clothing, learn what proportions you like and eliminate ones you don't like. Such as sleeve length (3/4, 4/4, sleveless, short sleeve), waist length(natural waist,hip,navel),neckline(v,sweetheart, turtleneck,boatneck, etc) skirt length(knee length, tea length,over the knee, mini, floor, ankle etc.) And for colors this article is a good help: http://galadarling.com/advice/fashion-help-for-recovering-goths even though it is for people who don't use much color it is a good way to analyse which colors might work for you. If that doesn't work consider holding up some silver or gold jewelry and some colored tshirts to your face and see which ones make your eyes look bright and lively. Also consider fabrics. What feels great on your skim and makes you happy? What itches and pinches?

An elegant look.

Everyone has the ability to become more elegant. I feel that you should start by liking yourself more. As far as fashion goes, solid jewel tones such as violet, emerald, deep red and sapphire blue really elevate your look. Keep the silhouette simple: don't overdo embellishments and wear things that trace your figure rather than wearing anything skin tight. Find a tailor if you have to. And a beautiful, classic dress always looks elegant. Hope this helps. *hugs*
