Left out for main ceremony. Are gifts warranted ?

In February, our niece married in a private ceremony that was only attended my her immediate family members. Aunts, uncles, grandparents were not invited. Her mother is now holding a "wedding celebration" and has invited extended family.

Is a gift warranted considering that we were not included in their ceremony?

Signed,
Left Out

Not about gift
by: Anonymous

A wedding gift is not payment for being admitted to the show of your choice. It is supposed to be given with good wishes for a long and happy marriage. If you truly wish that for your niece, than I would suggest giving her something nice. She apparently did not mean to snub you, as she did not invite any of the extended family to the ceremony. Of course, even if you had been at the ceremony, gifts are still not an admittance fee, so you would not be required to give her one even then. It is all a matter of why you want to give the gift.
