Beautiful Words and Inspiration

elegant border

Hello and welcome to my page of favourite elegant quotes, or quotes on elegance. They inspire me to have courage. I use them as my email signature, and in my blog entries. Sometimes I stick them on my mirror, or in my bible and diary. I love collecting famous quotes from women, especially inspirational women quotes.

Wondering what the definition of "Elegant" is?

  • The only real elegance is in the mind; If you've got that, the rest really comes from it. - Diana Vreeland

  • To live content with small means; to seek elegance rather than luxury, and refinement rather than fashion; to be worthy, not respectable, and wealthy, not, rich; to listen to stars and birds, babes and sages, with open heart; to study hard; to think quietly, act frankly, talk gently, await occasions, hurry never; in a word, to let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious, grow up through the common - this is my symphony - William Ellery Channing

  • I laugh, I love, I hope, I try, I hurt, I need, I fear, I cry. And I know you do the same things too, So we're really not that different, me and you. - Colin Raye

  • A truly elegant taste is generally accompanied with excellency of heart. - Henry Fielding
  • That is the key of this collection, being yourself. Don't be into trends. Don't make fashion own you, but you decide what you are, what you want to express by the way you dress and the way to live.- Gianni Versace

  • She had a flair for doing things in a very elegant way. At the same time, you felt like you were right there in her living room. She paid attention to people so that she was seeing to it everyone's little needs and egos were met. - Harold Brooks

  • What do I wear in bed? Why, Chanel No. 5, of course. - Marilyn Monroe (Not really related to elegance but it's so wonderful I just had to add it!)

  • Elegance is something more than ease - more freedom from awkwardness and restraint. It implies a precision, a polish and a sparkling which is spirited, yet delicate - Hazlitt

  • Quotes by Christian Dior

I will only say now that elegance must be the right combination of distinction, naturalness, care and simplicity. Outside this, believe me, there is no elegance. Only pretension.

Elegance is not dependent on money. Of the four things I have mentioned above, the most important of all is care. Care in choosing your clothes. Care in wearing them. Care in keeping them."

But it is possible for a woman to be elegant without spending very much money on her clothes, if she follows the basic rules of Fashion and is careful to choose the clothes that suit her personality

Simplicity, good taste and grooming are the three fundamentals of good dressing and these do not cost money.

Grooming is the secret of real elegance. The best clothes, the most wonderful jewels, the most glamourous beauty don't count without good grooming."

    Quotes by Audrey Hepburn

If I get married, I want to be very married.

It's that wonderful old-fashioned idea that others come first and you come second. This was the whole ethic by which I was brought up. Others matter more than you do, so 'don't fuss, dear; get on with it.

    Quotes by Coco Chanel

A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.

I don't understand how a woman can leave the house without fixing herself up a little - if only out of politeness. And then, you never know, maybe that's the day she has a date with destiny. And it's best to be as pretty as possible for destiny.

Elegance is not the prerogative of those who have just escaped from adolescence, but of those who have already taken possession of their future.

There are people who have money and people who are rich.

I love luxury. And luxury lies not in richness and ornateness but in the absence of vulgarity. Vulgarity is the ugliest word in our language. I stay in the game to fight it.

Some people think luxury is the opposite of poverty. It is not. It is the opposite of vulgarity.
