Second Marriages

by Leslie Samler
(Sanaibel, FL.)

I have a quesstion. We recently received a wedding invitation from a relative who was married and divorced a little over 3 years ago. The invitation to wedding #2 included a gift registry card titled "If you wish to honor us with a gift, we are registered at the following, etc". Since we gifted this individual so recently, do you think it is in good taste to suggest receiving gifts for a second marriage? My feeling is that anyone who gave a gift at marriage #1 should not receive a registry card with the wedding invitation. For new invitees (those who were not included in marriage #1) I have no problem. What is your opinion? I look forward to receiving your reply.

You should gift
by: TinaP

As someone who has been married and divorced (in the last 3 years) and is considering remarriage at some point in the next few years I have been doing some research. If it is his first marriage then registering is not rude of them. Also some people may want to give them a gift out of the kindness of their hearts. I'm sure when I do get remarried my parents and my grandparents and a few of my close friends will want to get me something, why not register to let them know what I'd like to have.

You should get a gift but it does not have to be extravagant or as expensive as the last one. You may find that she has registered for "lifestyle" gifts.

Your niece may have found it in better taste to spread her registry by word of mouth as is apparently the proper way to do it in a remarriage situation.

Registries in Invitations
by: Dandelion

No one should receive registry information in their wedding invitation, regardless of other circumstances surrounding the union.

If you would like to give the couple a gift, feel free to do so. You are under no obligation.
