Senior Forgetfulness

by Marie Hale

Sometimes in talking with my adult daughters, they get frustrated because I forget things. I do not know how to respond to their eye rolling or the "I just told you" statements. There must be a kind way of letting them know this upsets me and I really cannot help it.

Senior Forgetfulness NEW
by: Emmay

When my 28yo daughter says, "Mo-om, you just said that," I tell her with a smile, "Honey, it's only going to get worse." Then I request that she practice patience and kindness with me now because she will certainly need those qualities communicating with me in the future.
When my mom came down with dementia in her 80's, she would ask me the same question every five minutes, or would comment on the cloud formations every time she looked up and saw them again. I got really tired of giving her the same response over and over again, so I challenged myself to come up with an altogether different response every time she said the same thing. It got to be a nice game for me. I tell my daughter that if I happen to reach that stage in the future, I recommend that useful strategy...!
I'd give anything to have my mama back on this earth, even if I had to listen to her repeating herself.... :)

Attention goes a long way. It's the main reason kids don't remember things - they aren't paying strict attention. Look the person in the eye with your undivided attention. Repeat portions of what they said back to them (rewording it) ... "So really, Aunt Edna got a tattoo?! You'll be surprised what you remember. For incidentals like chores & shopping - make lists and always put them in the same place - same goes for keys, calendars, purse. Don't fry your brain looking for things. And put them away the same way. Remind yourself that shortcuts only lend time - you'll pay for it later.

Remind them of the importance of being kind. Also that they too will one day be your age.

How To Get Your Lost Husband Back NEW
by: Cissa Lima

How To Get Your Lost Husband Back

"LOVE is the key to LIFE". That was the word from Dr Ukaka when I consulted his powerful Love Temple. I married the wrong man; I realized that after four years of our unfruitful marriage. Everything was going from Best to Worst in our life, no child, I got demoted from work after our marriage, my husband was sacked a year after. His application for new job in various offices was constantly declined even though he was qualified enough. I was made to take care of my family with the low income I earn get that wasn’t enough to pay our rent. We keep praying a seeking for help from some people, my friends laugh at me behind because I was advised not to get married yet.It was one Thursday night that my husband woke me up and told me that has thought enough about our crisis, he said that our crisis is not ordinary and it’s beyond our spiritual level. He suggested we should consult Dr Ukaka from testimonies he showed me online about how he has been helping families. I was afraid, I don’t like evil or spell but I supported him to contact him if he can help us. We consulted him via freedomlovespell@hotmail.com and he replied positively after 20munites with congratulating email that he can help us but he will need our pure heart and trusts in his work if he will cast the spell on us and purify our life. We agreed to his terms. He cast the spell and told us to expect results within 5days. I waited for three days nothing happened, so I started having doubt and blaming my husband for emailing Dr Ukaka. It was on the fifth day that my husband was called for an interview and he got a well-paying work, I was prompted to a higher position. I missed my period on the 5th day and it was confirmed that I am with a baby. Things have really changed for us for good and we now have our own house and cars. I will never forget what Dr Ukaka told us "LOVE is the key to LIFE", this word keep me going. People that laughed at us are coming close for help and I am delighted to welcome them because my family is now blessed. Dr Ukaka is a savior and man that keep to his word even when I doubted his powers at the end of the spell. Thank you great Dr Ukaka and your Oracle for helping us via freedomlovespell@hotmail.com and I will keep spreading this message to people in need of help. also contact him for help.website address: freedomlovespelltemple.yolasite.com ;

How Dr Brave Restore My Broken Marriage And Bring Back My husband NEW
by: Natasha Johnson

An amazing testimony on a spell caster who brought my husband back to me.. My name is Natasha Johnson,i live in Florida,USA,and I'm happily married to a lovely and caring husband ,with two kids.A very big problem occurred in my family seven months ago, between me and my husband .so terrible that he took the case to court for a divorce.he said that he never wanted to stay with me again, and that he didn't love me anymore. So he packed out of the house and made me and my children passed through severe pain. I tried all my possible means to get him back, after much begging, but all to no avail.and he confirmed it that he has made his decision, and he never wanted to see me again. So on one evening,as i was coming back from work,i met an old friend of mine who asked of my husband .So i explained every thing to him,so he told me that the only way i can get my husband back,is to visit a spell caster, because it has really worked for him too.So i never believed in spell, but i had no other choice, than to follow his advice. Then he gave me the email address of the spell caster whom he visited.{bravespellcaster@gmail.com}. So the next morning,i sent a mail to the address he gave to me,and the spell caster assured me that i will get my husband back the next day. What an amazing statement!! I never believed,so he spoke with me,and told me everything that i need to do. Then the next morning, So surprisingly, my husband who didn't call me for the past seven {7}months,gave me a call to inform me that he was coming back.So Amazing!! So that was how he came back that same day, with lots of love and joy,and he apologized for his mistake, and for the pain he caused me and my children. Then from that day,our relationship was now stronger than how it were before,by the help of a spell caster. So, i will advice you out there to kindly visit the same website { http://enchantedscents.tripod.com/lovespell/},if you are in any condition like this,or you have any problem related to "bringing your ex back. So thanks to the Dr Brave for bringing back my husband ,and brought great joy to my family once again. {bravespellcaster@gmail.com }, Thanks..

Cherishing parents NEW
by: Anonymous

I'm not sure how anyone could roll their eyes or become impatient with their parents. My father is just recovering from a stroke and has also been diagnosed with the early onset of dementia. In his day, my dad was a dynamic person and a leader in his profession. It causes him a great deal of embarrassment and anxiety when he cannot remember the correct words or people's names or where they keep their glasses. Reacting with a gentle smile and reassurance is the best course of action with him. Showing impatience would only cause more distress to him. To my mind, I'm simply returning the patience he showed me when I was a child and just learning. They cherished me as a child and throughout my whole life - I can only cherish them now that they are in a position to need me.

I wouldn't take it too hard. I would just say something like, gosh, it I must be getting old. I am sure you have many moments when you remember things from the past nobody does. You can make a point when that happens too.

Forgetfulness

I might forget my phohe number for a minute, or where I put my cellphone. Usually I need a moment without anyone asking questions, rolling their eyes. My suggestion I did with my own mother and grandmother, "You will remember, be patient with yourself." They did remember in a few minutes and came to joke a little about the process.

Alzheimer's or Tuning Out?
by: Anonymous

Is the writer here actually suffering from dementia, or is she just rudely tuning out? My own mom insists on carrying on a conversation when she is falling asleep, or is getting a buzz from a glass of wine. It's annoying. I can see her eyes glaze over, her speech slows down, and she's clearly not in a state to carry on an interesting or emotional conversation. But she gets upset if we say anything about her being tired, or try to defer the conversation until later. She doesn't realize how rude it is to bellow out advice when you're not really listening to what the other person is saying, or to mention the dream you keep slipping in and out of. We roll our eyes and she gets mad about it... but I don't think we're being unfair to her.

Explain, and request
by: Boston Mom and Daughter

The previous poster makes an excellent point about the fear associated with the changes in our parents' memory as time goes by. However, I would go a bit further when responding to the children's eye-rolling and complaining. Not only would I remind them that I'm doing my best, I would also let them know that I am aware of their impatient reactions and hurt by them.

Perhaps they need a reminder of all the patience and support you provided to them during their lives.

Yes, It's hard to swap roles with a parent after a lifetime of being in the role of the child. If they're lucky enough to still have a mother around they need an attitude adjustment.

Senior Forgetfullness
by: Anonymous

I too experience "Senior Forgetfullness" I believe our children react the way they do out of fear. They feel threatened by the thought that we may be "losing it"...we are their parents and must never change. If we (who they always believed could solve every problem, be strong, be there for them when they needed us)can fail...then they aren't safe either.

Maybe it would help when they roll their eyes, to say "sorry...but I'm doing the best I can" and let it go at that. They don't intend to be mean...they just don't want to deal with it.
