Should a woman lean over and open the car door for the man?

My friend and I have a disagreement.

He feels once he opens/closes the car door for a lady, she should lean over and open his door. I told him that would be the polite thing to do if the door was locked to unlock the door but why should she do that if the door is already unlocked?
