Taking a date to a Wedding or Bridal Shower

I am a 27 year old female and I still live at home with my parents. I am currently in a long distance relationship, he lives in California, and we've been together for 4 years.

Very close friends of my family are getting married in April. We received the invitation yesterday. It was addressed to my parents and me as "Mr. & Mrs. Sundilands and Miss Rach."

The reason for my email is that I would like to take a date. However, because the invitation did not include a guest, for me, I feel as though I shouldn't. I also feel a little offended because they all know I have a boyfriend and regardless I am an adult.

The bridal shower is this weekend...should I casually ask the bride if I could bring a date?

Please let me know if I'm wrong or if there is anything I could say to the bride that will not offend her.

Thank you for your time.

Best Regards,

Rach

Even if you should have received your own invitation as an adult, that does not give you the right to bring a perfect stranger to a private event. If they wanted strangers at their wedding, they could have simply taken an ad out in the local newspaper advertising free food.
