Telephone Call

by Teresa Brett
(Waynesboro Ms. USA)

I called my daughter in laws aunt that i met at Christmas whom i really liked a lot when she and her husband visited us. I wanted to stay in touch with them and called about noon time one day, which was three or four days ago. I got the answering machine and left a message thinking they may return my call. I have not heard back from them. Should I call them back or not?

How many times should I call someone who doesn't return my calls? NEW
by: mother in law

My D-I-L confronted me last April angry that I don't call her. I quit because she never returned my calls.
Immediately after, I called 2 or 3 times a week with no response. I see her occasionally (when she needs a babysitter). Since then, I callher every week or two but she rarely calls back (and then only if we have babysitting set up -- I guess just in case I am cancelling. Considering the family relationship, should I keep on keeping on?

Sage Mar's Advice NEW
by: MAR

I have been in this situation either way--the following works like a charm:
Wait another week (they might be on vacation), then call again and if the machine picks up leave the following message: 'Hi Peg, this is Jane -- remember we met at the wedding? Anyway, I enjoyed talking with you so much I am calling to KIT and to be sure that this is the correct telephone number for you. I just want to confirm that I am leaving this message for you and not someone else. Hope to hear from you soon. You can reach me at 867-5309' (repeat your tel.# and listen to your message to ensure it can be clearly understood.)
If the person is interested they will call you back, otherwise the obvious--be prepared for surprises--and let it slide if the outcome is not positive. Cheers.

Take the initiative and call again.

Why not call back?

Sometimes messages get deleted by accident, maybe it wasn't working, or some people have been meaning to return the call but forgot.
