texting during dinner or with company

by Richard Camp

Dear Miss Manners,

We were at the Thanksgiving Table Thursday, and one of my sons, (all three are in their 30's) started texting at the table during the meal. I told him to stop, which he did, but when he went into the kitchen for 2nd's he started texting again.
So here is my question, is it appropriate to take up every one's phone before the Christmas meal and return them after the gifts have been opened?
Thank you

Thanksgiving Testing

I agree with Norma Scott. Cell phones have no place at the dinner table. Also, leaving the phone to text in the kitchen at Thanksgiving is just as rude. Someone has taken a lot of time and talent to prepare a Thanksgiving feast and all guests, (and cooks), should refrain from using their phone during this several hours.

Please ask them to leave their phones off for the once a year family feast. They are not only being rude (unless the are doctors on call) but teaching their children a poor lesson
