To Register or Not To Register

I am 39 years old and have a partner who is 48 years old. We have been together for 14 years and are planning a committment ceremony this July. We are inviting 150 people to our special day. Although I do not want gifts from my guests, my friends are telling me I should register. The feeling is that our friends and family will want to get us a gift and will not know what to get us if we don't register. We will likely end up getting lots of picture frames :) My sister, on the other hand, is telling me I should not register because we are well established and don't need "things". What should we do?
