Embracing Timeless Dressing
Timeless Quote on Style Key to good dressing. There is no key! If there were it would be too easy, rich women could buy the key and all their fashion worries would be over! But simplicity, grooming and good taste - the three fundamentals of fashion - cannot be bought. But they can be learnt, by rich and poor alike. - Dior How does Audrey Hepburn look so timeless? How do designs become classic? We take a look at fashion, its influences and nail down styles that never go out.
The basic principles of achieving a beautiful, elegant look that is timeless are quite simple. There is of course, a more sophisticated elegance whose taste you will eventually develop, but for starters, we will stick to simple clean lines, and focus on quality.
Note: You needn't go out and spend a tonne of money. An elegant woman is more materially-restrained than we realize.
There is always something very cohesive, rounded, soft, subtle, ethereal look about a woman who is elegant. It looks effortless and perfectly gentle. Basic principles: An timeless, elegant woman is always 1) Clean 2) Neat 3) Graceful in appearance where you first notice her, before the dress, no matter how pretty. 4) Wearing quality clothes. 5) There is nothing unpleasant about that image or anything about her appearance to frown about. 6) She also dresses appropriately, according to occasion .
First Steps To a Timeless Elegant Look: If you've hardly felt elegant before, these are baby steps you can make which all in all are nothing but subtle changes. We humbly go back to the grooming basics. Skin Care, Make Up, Hair The very very least, have a clean face, nails, and smell fresh (from having showered and not reeking with perfume). Wear fresh clothes always. Develop your own customized skin care and hair care range. Avoid becoming the fickle woman who tries out every brand of skin care, hair care, cosmetic range every time she goes store. Pay attention what works for you and never take your looks for granted. Pick one or the maximum two brands-the ones that work best for you of course-and stick to it! Get married to it, swear by it!
As for make up, I find that not every brand is excellent for everything so use your own discretion but try to have a few of as many things as possible. This is of course unless you are make up artist, or if make up is your passion. It is absurd that some girls I meet are actually proud that they don't bother to wear make up, that they don't know how to wear make up or have no care program for their body. Unless you are extremely gorgeous without make up, I suggest its best to humble yourself to learn a thing or two and wear some, like the rest of us. I've met some highly intelligent girls who are simply too proud to do so. They view such activities as demeaning to women, or are for "bimbos" only. They also often wonder why men are not attracted to them.
Some think its attractive to be the opposite of what women naturally do, or are - who exhibit their girlish traits by being excited about make up and other "girly things". So they almost act like tomboys, have the same boring hair, and never bothered to try to wear contact lenses. Perhaps its a combination of wrong beliefs that they are unique and attractive by being so, laziness or a self-righteous attitude that people should appreciate their inner beauty and good heart that they are so. As the bible says, "Men looks (and women too) at the outward appearance." With the exception of women who are blessed with excellent skin, colour and hair, I suggest all women should at least wear a bit of make up, unless you are very 18 and under. How much make up ? It depends on how much you have to conceal, how pale you are. You want to aim for a fresh, natural look for the day so that you won't get comments like, "You look tired." or "Are you working too hard?" She is always neat So when you have the habits of being exceptionally clean with pristine make up, we now cover the subject of being neat. Subconsciously, I think we all know how to be neat and try. They affect our self confidence more than we realize. Quality is essential to elegance. Aim for quality over quantity. Good quality is not an extravagance, it lasts for a long time and may end up to be cheaper because you get more uses of each item. It pays to have the very best that you afford. Of course every woman dreams of having different outfits everyday for the whole year. But honestly, I'm sure we can all relate to this that when you see a woman looking lovely in a beautiful dress, you look forward to seeing her again. I often tell my friends when I see them wearing a dress that I like again, "Oh, I'm glad you wore this again, it really looks good on you!"
When you have a favourite dress, there is no reason why you should not wear it often! My ideal wardrobe is to have 10 really good pieces that I can wear over and over, mix and match, dress it up or down. I know it is natural to think that we have never enough, and that we need more of this or that, but I actually find that it makes more sense to have a small but good wardrobe. I've tested that theory when I have to travel often for a few months. I can't shop too much because that's all I can take when I return and yet I need to pack a workable mobile wardrobe that works for my lifestyle. Many times I've realized that I hardly ever need to shop, because what I have, no matter how many times I've worn in, works! Somehow when the occasion calls for it, we all rise up to it. Actually, I very much enjoy the simplicity of only having a few pieces, you get dressed much quicker and you find yourself more creative when you work with what you have! It is much better to have a few clothes but good ones. A last note, someone or something very fashionable, is never really elegant. What Is NOT Elegant 1) Old, faded clothing: They should go. 2) Tears, holes and stains in the clothing: Repair and remove. 3) Scuffed shoes. Usually I would say throw them out, but maybe there is something your cobbler can do. 4) Clothes which are not ironed. Either do your ironing, or buy clothes that need no ironing! 5) Clothes of ridiculous fashion. 6) VPL, Visible panty lines 7) Runs in your stocking 8) Mismatched clothes 9) Unruly hair 10) Hair covering the eyes 11) red patches of skin or pimples that no effort been made to conceal 12) Dirty fingernails 13) Grubby looking bagthat needs to be washed, repaired and most likely thrown out. 14) Fake designer goods. Just don't buy them if you can't afford or save up, even if it takes months. 15) Carrying a bag not proportionate to your body. The general rule of thumb is, the smaller the bag, the more elegant. 16) Appropriateness of the occasion with regards to the outfit, bag, shoes, make up. Graceful in appearance where you first notice her, before the dress, no matter how pretty. If you note those common areas as written above, you've almost a graceful look. Here are just some quick elegant tips when selecting your outfit. Depending on occasion, and perhaps despite occasion, I would recommend you start developing your elegant eye and taste. On occasion it is generally embarrassing to be overdressed, but I think it is also rude to be under-dressed.
